Live Dutch Learning for Expats in Amsterdam

Living in Amsterdam offers endless opportunities, and life is easy because everyone speaks English. But mastering the local language and improving your Dutch communication skills can make the experience richer. Our live sessions with tutor Nathalie are designed especially for expats who want practical, real-life learning in a friendly and supportive environment.

Meet Nathalie: Your Local Learning Guide

Our tutor Nathalie brings energy, experience, and a personal approach to every session. Her lessons focus on real conversations, everyday situations, and confidence building. She recently has been teaching Dutch to Walter from the US, who came over for an intensive Dutch course.

What Students Say: Walter’s Experience

“I’m a native English speaker with solid Dutch reading and listening skills (somewhere between B2 and C1). But speaking Dutch—and understanding real-life, rapid-fire Dutch—was a whole different story.

So, I did 25 hours of one-on-one tutoring with Flowently over five days (yes, an intense Dutch bootcamp). I worked with two tutors, Roekaya and Nathalie—one in the morning, one in the afternoon—and they were fantastic. They teamed up to pinpoint my weak spots and built a clear plan to tackle them.

The lessons were excellent, the materials super helpful, and the shared Google Drive kept everything organized (and saved me from losing notes—always a win). By the end of the week, my speaking and comprehension had improved a lot—especially with fast, everyday Dutch.

Even better, they showed me how to keep improving on my own. That said… I’ll probably still continue lessons online—just at a slightly less intense pace once I’m back in the U.S.”

Nathalie about Walter’s Intensive Dutch Course

“We jumped straight into real conversations and kept that going every session. I encouraged Walter to speak Dutch at his own pace—mistakes very much welcome. Feeling comfortable is key, and that’s when progress really speeds up.

One assignment was writing a personal story, which gave great insight into his level. From there, we built lessons around his interests—he loves storytelling, so that worked perfectly.

We used books like Op naar de eindstreepTaaltempo Nederlands, and Dutch on the GoTaaltempo was especially useful: short, incomplete sentences you read aloud quickly, simulating natural conversation. It’s a great way to build fluency fast—and to keep conversations flowing instead of… awkwardly stalling.”
