In May, all birds lay an egg
Oh no, no shitty pigeons on my shelf in front of the window! Two pigeons keep flying in; they sit on the edge of the ‘balcony,’ then jump into one of my plants and start their cooing. They are clearly looking for a suitable place to nest.
After chasing them away for three days, I give up. The pigeons have chosen the largest pot as their home. Fortunately, they leave the other plants alone. They sit together, cooing and cuddling in front of my window and occasionally look inside. The distance from where I sit on my couch to the nest is only a meter and a half. Cozy!
Marijn and Mariska
Now that they have more or less become housemates, they deserve a name too. I call them Marijn and Mariska, after my children’s late rabbits. Marijn and Mariska are happy with their spot and fly back and forth with a twig in their beaks. It looks cute. They are building a beautiful nest on top of my plant, and Mariska settles comfortably among the greenery.
Who is actually Marijn and who is Mariska? I wouldn’t be able to say. Respect compels me not to get too close when they are sitting on the edge or on the nest. I don’t want to scare or disturb them. They both have a beautiful white ring around their necks; they are wood pigeons.
Dharana for pigeons
Apparently, the nest is finished now, as no more material is being brought in. The nest is now continuously occupied. In deep meditation, one after the other sits on the nest for hours, single-point concentration. Occasionally, I see a changing of the guard. This happens with harmonious naturalness. They are very sweet to each other.
When the nest is free for a moment, I rush to the window and see a single egg in a flash. Quickly back again, because the pigeon is approaching. Could there be more? Sometimes I momentarily forget that the pigeons are sitting right in front of my window, when I’m tidying my room and suddenly find myself standing right in front of it without noticing. The family doesn’t mind. I regularly feel the little pigeon eyes fixed on me; they’ve adopted me too.
Hmmmm, how long have they been sitting on that egg or those eggs now? Let me just Google how long this is allowed to last. Is everything alright?
